1 - The first steps

What is a domain name ?

A domain name is a name in the Domain Name System (DNS), which is the Internet naming system by which networks, computers, webservers, mail servers and other applications are identified.

A domain name must be unique. Domain names must satisfy a number of technical requirements.

Will be not accepted the following domain names for registration : Names that are already registered (“first come, first served” -principle), names in quarantine, names that are put “out-of-support” or on hold.

Wat is a web hosting ?

The  virtual web hosting is a method for hosting multiple domain names (with separate handling of each name) on a single server (or pool of servers). This allows one server to share its resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services provided to use the same host name. The term virtual hosting is usually used in reference to web servers but the principles carry over to other internet services.

2 - Mail

How to create your address e-mail ?

After choosing and registering a domain name for your website ( e.g. yoursite.net ), you can create e-mail addresses linked to your domain name ( e.g. yourname@yoursite.net or contact@yoursite.net ).

Log in your interface of administration:

Introduce your user name and your password.

In Virtualmin :

1. The left menu enter « Edit Users »

2. In this window « Add a user to this server »

3. Enter your desired e-mail and your password

4. Click on « Create user »

And here is your new address e-mail created on the server!
Again in the window « Edit Users » you will find the new address and the username.
The username and the password will be useful for the configuration of your customer e-mail such as Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.

To say differently :

How to configure your mailbox ?

Settings to configure your mail user agent (thunderbird, outlook, mac mail…)

Username : the login e-mail which you created in virtualmin

for example if your mail = anatole@example.be then your login = anatole.example

Password : the password which you created in virtualmin

For the incoming mail :

(Settings POP or IMAP *)

Name of the server : dns.omcn.net (SSL), your address e-mail (without security)

Port : Leave by default (110 for POP, 143 forIMAP, 995 for POP SSL, or 993 for IMAP SSL).

Security SSL : activated (recommended)

For the outgoing mail :

(Settings SMTP)

Name of the server : dns.omcn.net (SSL), your address e-mail (without security)

Port : 25 by defaults, 587 (STARTTLS) if your FAI filters port 25 (Free, Orange…), or 465 if you use SSL. In all the cases, you can test the three and you stop on that which functions. If the various ports do not function, try again with port 25 (without coding) and 587 (STARTTLS).

TLS security or SSL : activated (recommended)

Authentification SMTP : yes, use the same settings as entering account POP or IMAP. So at the time of connection you receive a message of alarm saying that the certificate is not valid, you must validate it (for always and not that for this session) and possibly to import it in your software (thunderbird, outlook,  mac mail…)

Account POP makes it possible “to download” the messages which are on the server towards your computer. It is the simplest mode and more the current of use of a mail account. Caution : the messages will then be removed off the server. In certain cases, your mail software makes it possible o leave a copy of the messages on the server (contact the support of your software, or consult a search engine on this subject), but disadvise we it, that very quickly risks to encumber your mailbox you will not be able to then receive your e-mails any more, unless doing a cleaning regularly via the webmail.

Account IMAP gives access the messages directly on the server, as since our webmail (https://nextbridge.net/roundcube/). We advise the use of POP if you always consult your e-mails since the same computer. In the contrary case, select IMAP, by checking regularly that your mailbox is not full.
